Wired for Takeoff: Final Approach

Project Description

The "Wired for Takeoff" project has officially reached cruising altitude! While the major work wrapped up a while ago, we had to wait for the final electrical touches before we could put the finishing pieces in place. And now, with the firewall set up, the network fully activated, and every Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN - segments network traffic to improve security and efficiency) assigned, this office is fully connected and ready for business.

For this final phase, we:

  • Installed and configured the firewall, ensuring a secure and stable network.
  • Activated all smaller switches in the cubicle and office areas, making sure every connection was live and running smoothly.
  • Finalized equipment adoption and assigned all devices to their proper VLANs.
  • Assigned static addresses for the Uniview network video recorders (UNV) boxes within the security VLAN to ensure seamless operation. UNV boxes manage and store security camera footage. By assigning them static IP addresses, we ensure they function reliably within the security VLAN.

This project has been a journey, starting back in December with initial discussions and estimates. Our first day on-site was January 8th, kicking things off after a slight weather delay. Over the course of 200+ hours, we transformed an empty building into a fully operational workspace with 30,000 feet of cable and 100+ network drops.
